BACKGROUND
Migrating a legacy DAM without losing a thread
This project aimed to migrate all digital assets from ImageVault DAM to Optimizely DAM and adapt the existing Optimizely CMS solution accordingly. This project was based on doing a 1:1 move - no metadata update, minimal necessary adaptation to match the new DAM system.

THE CHALLENGE
Getting from A to B – without losing anything along the way
Our client had been running a legacy DAM for years. When the platform hit its deprecated state, the decision to move was straightforward. The migration itself was anything but.
Their CMS was deeply integrated with the old system – not just at the surface level, but woven into content properties, rich text content, image handling, and a B2B commerce portal. Untangling all of that while keeping everything working was the real challenge.
THE SOLUTION
Asset migration & CMS adaption
The full asset library – images, videos, metadata, and folder structures – was transferred to the new DAM with its relationships and hierarchy intact. Nothing was flattened or lost in transit. Every remaining legacy dependency was removed from the codebase.
Access management
We designed an access management model for a large organisation. New users get immediate access to shared assets on first login. Extended permissions are managed centrally, keeping control without creating friction for everyday users.

THE RESULT
A clean slate – and a solid foundation
The client now runs on a fully decoupled CMS with no legacy dependencies. Every asset made it across. The access model is structured, scalable, and secure. And the team has a modern DAM environment they can build on – rather than work around.
The project also surfaced a few sharper lessons for migrations of this kind. A preliminary technical study – mapping the old system to the new before any work begins – proved essential for avoiding costly surprises mid-project. Early specialist involvement made a measurable difference. And getting authentication and user group automation right from day one meant the organisation could hit the ground running.
It’s the kind of project where doing it properly upfront is exactly what makes the outcome feel straightforward at the end.
