Noticed

Audi

The ignition is turned on with a well-packaged but overly self-assured collection of platitudes, stock phrases and fashions about freedom synonymous with self-driving cars, digitalization, humanoid robots, etc. The other two thirds look more like a classic report made in Germany, i.e. informative but monotonous.

Daimler

Navigating through the online report is a pleasant experience. Though being a heavy vehicle at more than 300 pages, the PDF delivers both on style and substance –e.g. with solid management and risk reviews. But, among other questions, is it really desirable that cars are becoming parking space search engines?

Ford

Focused? Maybe, but no fiesta. The MD&A is substantiated. But where is the narrative? And why are key figures and selected data so short?

General Motors

Laudable efforts to demonstrate a focus on Long-Term Sustainability. The rest of the annual reporting policy is much more conventional and released at slow speed.

Honda

A very compact reporting vehicle.

Kia

True colors are strong on branding but lagging behind on other major reporting ingredients.

Mazda

Long-Term Vision for Technology Development aims at raising average fuel economy by 50% by 2020. Worthwhile considerations on safety, design and transmission.

Nissan

The report lacks a real body and is short on fuel.

Porsche

Porsche SE... pursues a dividend policy that is geared to sustainability (H. D. Pötsch, Chairman). What does this mean effectively?

Renault

The annual report has an appealing product drive but it takes the 450-page Registration Document to get the full picture, including statistics about production, registrations, market shares, as well as results of the alliance with Nissan.

Tata Motors

Length, structure and duplication -e.g. overlap between board’s report and MD&A- should be addressed. But the analysis of performance and financials is excellent.

Toyota

The Report Library consists of a dozen documents (+ 16 regional reports) including special reports on vehicle recycling, social contribution, forestry (+ a thorough 150-page Data Book)… Although concise, the core Sustainable Management Report smartly displays a drive towards three main goals and Sustainable Growth (across the value chain).

Volkswagen

With 422 pages and a monotonous design, this isn’t really redefining report mobility, nor strengthening innovative power. The letter to shareholders is short –very short. Oh, the Diesel Issue is addressed over seven pages and a Responsibility Statement lies on p 319.
