Lafarge takes the top spot in Webranking by Comprend France, with 54.4 points. The Airbus Group went down to second place, with 53.6 points. AXA is ranked third, rising from last year’s 13th place. Alcatel-Lucent, PSA, Eiffage and Eurazeo have returned to the ranking, accompanied by the newcomers Faurecia and Plastic Omnium. Highlights from the research show shortcomings in the way French companies address stakeholders’ needs.
The study, which covered 830 corporate websites from 41 countries this year, examined 75 French companies and found that the majority of French websites do not include information on financial targets, an item that 91% of respondents regard as important.
Although the results show that three out of four investors would like to see companies present a compelling investment case, only 11% of the French websites address that request.
Useful information on governance is crucial
Recent events on the corporate scene show that useful information on governance is crucial. Although investors have a keen interest in this topic, French companies average only 28% of the total score, with opaque or non-existent information on the board of directors, remuneration or insider dealings.
On diversity and equal opportunities, two increasingly hot topics evaluated as important by 90% of the survey respondents, French companies average an impressive 77% of the total score.
On technology, the lag is best described by the 21% of French companies that provide a responsive website against the 58% of stakeholders who look for one. Adapting the corporate website to multiple devices a pressing need these days.

Commenting on the French results, Miguel Cruz de Oliveira, Client Director for Portugal, Spain and France, Comprend, said:
“This year’s average score for French companies was basically the same as last year, which means online communications are not getting the attention they deserve. This is all the more worrying as corporate communications today happen mostly online.”
